Cambridge BioMarketing to Premiere Rare in Common Film on Rare Disease Day 2016

Documentary honors and celebrates patients and their caregivers living with the challenges of a rare disease

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--()--Cambridge BioMarketing, the world’s leading rare disease and specialty market agency, will premiere Rare in Common, a film project honoring people living with the challenges of a rare disease, on Rare Disease Day at the Landmark Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.

On Feb. 29, 2016, 87 countries will celebrate Rare Disease Day to recognize the critical role patients and their caregivers play in calling attention to the public health issues associated with rare diseases, which affect 25-30 million people in the United States and approximately 30 million people in the European Union. One in 10 Americans is living with a rare disease, and approximately 7,000 rare disorders are in existence, with new ones discovered each year, according to research compiled by Global Genes™.

The complex nature of rare diseases, coupled with limited access to treatment and services, means that family members are often the primary source of solidarity, support, and care for their loved ones. Patients with rare diseases—and those who care for them—share a common bond: they are enormously courageous individuals. Cambridge BioMarketing is showing its support by launching Rare in Common, a film project celebrating the lives of inspiring people in the rare community and giving them a forum to showcase their unique stories.

“Part of our focus at Cambridge BioMarketing is on building cohesive patient-physician communities around effective treatments for rare diseases and connecting them with transformational, potentially life-saving medicines,” said Maureen Franco, CEO, Cambridge BioMarketing. “Rare Disease Day is naturally a cause very close to our hearts. People with these conditions have amazing stories to tell but often struggle to be heard, so we kicked off this ambitious film project last year to compile patient stories into a compelling narrative to share with the world. The goal is simple: shine the spotlight on the people impacted by rare diseases and celebrate their commonalities.”
