Concord Law School Celebrates 75 Graduates and Recognizes Several Students for Academic Achievement

Theodore Calleton Delivers Keynote Address

LOS ANGELES--()--Concord Law School of Kaplan University, the nation’s first fully-online law school, held its 25th graduation today at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles celebrating 75 graduates.

The graduating class includes 42 graduates of the Juris Doctor program and 29 graduates of the Executive Juris Doctor program. In addition, this class includes four graduates of Concord’s Small Business Practice LLM program designed for lawyers and law school graduates who want practical courses focused on the needs of small business clients.

Concord Law School Dean Larry David conferred the degrees.

“As a Concord Law School graduate myself, I understand the great demands law school puts on you along with your outside responsibilities, such as work and family life, that many of you have,” Dean David told the graduates. “Let today be the stepping stone for your future; continue to push the envelope and find solutions to issues so to make further progress.”

The keynote address was given by Theodore (Ted) Calleton, L.L.B., Of Counsel with Calleton, Merritt, De Francisco & Bannon LLP in Pasadena focusing on estate planning, life insurance and irrevocable trusts and also the author or co-author of six books on these topics. He spoke about the practical application of some maxims of the law.

Several graduates were recognized for outstanding achievement at the ceremony. Award winners include Andrea Chase (Cleveland, TN), Tracy Liberatore (Scranton, PA) and Angela Strangle (Hesperia, CA) who received the Kaplan Award for Legal Services. The Executive Juris Doctor Award for Academic Excellence was awarded to Adam Philipps (Chocowinity, NC). Tracy Liberatore also received the Jack R. Goetz Award for Academic Excellence, which recognizes the Juris Doctor graduate who achieved the highest cumulative grade point average. Finally, the Sue Lane Award, honoring one student from the graduating class who embodies a strong work ethic, compassionate nature and service to the community, was also presented to Andrea Chase.
