The Advanced Imaging Society to Honor Marvel’s Victoria Alonso with 2016 Harold Lloyd Award for Filmmaking

LOS ANGELES--()--The Advanced Imaging Society announced today that Marvel Studios’ Executive Producer Victoria Alonso will receive the Society’s 2016 Harold Lloyd Award for filmmaking at the Society’s annual Creative Arts Award Show held on January 28th at Warner Bros. Studios.

Ms. Alonso, who also serves as the studio’s Executive Vice President of Physical Production, was an Executive Producer on 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Ant-man,” as well as Marvel’s string of worldwide box office hits, including: “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Thor: The Dark World” and “Iron Man 3.”

“Victoria Alonso has inspired movie fans and her colleagues with a dedication to strong story telling and brilliant technical achievement,” said Society Awards Chairman, Buzz Hays, of the True Image Company.

The Harold Lloyd Award is annually presented to a filmmaker, whose body of work and specific achievements in 3D filmmaking, have advanced the motion picture art form.

“Harold Lloyd helped create and advocated for the use of technical innovations to thrill movie audiences in more than 200 films here in Hollywood,” said Suzanne Lloyd, Chairman of Harold Lloyd Entertainment. “As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Harold first stepping in front of the camera, I know he would be thrilled that this award, bearing his name, be presented to an artist of Victoria Alonso’s passion and achievement,” added Lloyd.

Previous honorees of the Harold Lloyd Award have included French director, Jean Pierre-Jeunet, James Cameron (“Avatar”), Martin Scorsese (“Hugo”), Ang Lee (“Life of Pi”) and Jeffrey Katzenberg (DreamWorks Animation).

“This is the first time the Lloyd Award is being presented to a woman and to one who works primarily as an Executive Producer,” commented Society President, Jim Chabin. “We are a global organization of creative professionals from throughout the world, and this award exemplifies our brilliant and diverse family of creative leaders,” he added.

The Society’s Creative Arts Awards annually honor “extraordinary achievement” in the 3D and advanced imaging arts, including Virtual Reality, High Dynamic Range, Movies, Television and other entertainment media.

Alonso is currently executive producing Marvel’s upcoming feature films, including Directors’ Joe and Anthony Russo’s “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Derrickson’s “Doctor Strange” and James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” Prior to her work at Marvel, Ms. Alonso worked in visual effects production for films including Ridley Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven,” Tim Burton’s “Big Fish” and Andrew Adamson’s “Shrek.”

Harold Lloyd starred, directed and produced more than 200 movies throughout his life. Along with Charlie Chapman and Buster Keaton, Lloyd founded Hollywood’s comedic genre. In 1923, Harold Lloyd sat for an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The conversation was reported in the Times’ October 21st edition, before the advent of sound and “talkies.” Harold spoke at length about his fascination with 3D: “if the characters could only be made to stand out as they do in stereopticon [3D] pictures, and still retain the action of motion pictures today, I think the ultimate would be reached by cinema.” A passionate advocate for 3D, Harold formed Hollywood’s first 3D Society in 1950 with actor friends Edgar Bergen and Sterling Holloway (voice of Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh”). Harold served as its first President.
