LAS VEGAS--()--Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM), and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, today announced plans to deliver new release and catalog titles mastered in Dolby Vision™, the high-dynamic-range (HDR) format and playback solution, to home entertainment distribution partners this year.

Dolby Vision, a complement to both HD and 4K, transforms your TV experience with dramatic imaging—incredible brightness, contrast, and color that bring entertainment to life before your eyes. It achieves this astonishing image quality through innovative HDR technologies that, compared to a standard picture, can deliver brighter highlights, more light-to-dark contrast, and colors never before seen on a TV.

“With 4K UHD content becoming more prevalent, we are excited to provide consumers an elevated home-viewing experience and showcase our content with Dolby Vision HDR,” said Jose Gutierrez, Executive Vice President, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.

Dolby Vision brings out ultravivid colors and more hues across a full range of brightness—some never before seen on standard televisions—to show everything from the most intense neon lights to the subtlest shades of flowers to the true red of a London double-decker bus. Deep darks provide a new level of richness and precision that makes every scene look more real and nuanced.

“We could not be more pleased to be working with Dolby to deliver to consumers the ability to watch Universal movies in the most spectacular format possible,” said Michael Bonner, Executive Vice President, Digital Distribution, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. “Together, we are committed to ensuring that home entertainment consumers can enjoy the richest, most remarkable movie-watching experience yet with Dolby Vision.”

An end-to-end solution, Dolby Vision works from content creation to distribution and is also a universal playback solution. Dolby Vision has already received support from critical points in the ecosystem including A-list Hollywood directors, executives at major studios, streaming service providers and TV manufacturers worldwide.

“Dolby is thrilled to collaborate with both Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to incorporate Dolby Vision into their extensive libraries and compelling new release slates,” said Curt Behlmer, Senior Vice President, Content Solutions and Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. “These partnerships will ensure a robust Dolby Vision content pipeline and unique visual experience for viewers.”
