The recent interest rate hike, future possible increases and their implications dominate much of the panel discussion. Meg Mulry, senior economist, economic and industry research, at A.M. Best, said the first rate hike will have a very minimal effect on the day-to-day operations of insurers. “We’re looking at the longer term, that is, the pace of which the Federal Reserve tightens the monetary policy,” said Mulry. “They described it as going to be a gradual pace, but even now we can see a disconnect in the market expectations versus the expectations the Federal Reserve has currently set going forward.
