SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Storix, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has prevailed in defending a copyright infringement claim by its former founder, Anthony Johnson, in US District Court (Case No. 3:14-cv-01873). A unanimous jury rejected Mr. Johnson’s infringement claim and found that Storix, Inc. owns all copyrights in SBAdmin.
Mr. Johnson resigned from Storix, Inc. in 2014 and then sued the company for copyright infringement, claiming that he, not Storix, was the copyright owner. In response, Storix filed a counterclaim for declaratory relief seeking confirmation that it owned not only the registered copyright referenced in Johnson’s complaint, but all copyrights in all versions of SBAdmin as well.
After a five-day trial, the jury unanimously sided with Storix, finding (among other things) that Storix, Inc. owns all copyrights in SBAdmin, including the registered copyright Mr. Johnson obtained in 1999 and that ownership of the copyrights was transferred to Storix when it was incorporated in 2003.
