Sequence Research Shows Consumers Turn to Technology to Manage Busy Holidays

SAN FRANCISCO--()--According to new research from Sequence, consumers are increasingly relying on mobile and other technology to help better manage their busy holidays -- even allowing them to get more rest. One in three consumers said they would sleep instead of meeting friends for drinks, baking cookies and other holiday activities if mobile technology helped save three hours of their time.

“It’s no secret the holidays can be stressful and demanding for American consumers,” said Jojo Roy, chief executive officer of Sequence. “Our survey shows how consumers are looking to technology for a new way to make their lives easier; this is an opportunity for brands to find meaningful and useful roles for technology as they create connected experiences for consumers.”

The insights, published today in an infographic, Technology Makes Holidays Delightful, come from a survey of more than 1,000 U.S. consumers by Sequence, a San Francisco-based independent agency that designs and develops connected experiences for the world’s best-known and most innovative brands.

Key findings:

  • 42% say technology makes it easier to create a gift wish list
  • 38% of women say they text each other all the time instead of talking on the phone
  • 57% say thanks to text messaging and social media, they’re in more contact with their family
  • 1 out of 4 say instead of a traditional phone call, they will video chat with their family

The complete findings of the survey report “Happy Digital Holiday: Technology, Culture and Emerging Holiday Traditions” will be available in December. To have a copy of the report emailed to you, sign up at sequence.com/insights. Download the Technology Makes Holidays Delightful infographic here.
