BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SilverCloud Health, a global leader of behavioral and mental wellness telehealth solutions, and strategic partner Wiley, one of the world’s most well respected providers of industry leading education, medical and psychological content, today announced the official launch of the Space from Diabetes evidence-based online therapeutic solution. Developed as the first in a series of online diabetes care tools, Space from Diabetes provides an informative, therapeutic and supportive pathway to help better self-manage T2D with the right mix of educational, lifestyle and behavioral health strategies and tools.
Designed to take on diabetes head-on, the initial launch program focuses on empowering those with diabetes to tackle ‘diabetes distress’ and leverages Wiley’s world-class library of psychological and diabetes content, along with the clinical expertise from U.S. behavioral health and diabetes experts. These experts include Dr. Bill Polonsky, co-founder and president of the Behavioral Diabetes Institute; Dr. Lydia Ann Chwastiak, psychiatrist and associate professor of the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; and Sherri Shafer, Senior Registered Diabetes Dietitian and Educator at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.
“Diabetes is a behavioral disease and we need to be treating it as one. Using programs that aid with keeping treatment front of mind, treat diabetes distress, personalize the disease and remove environmental obstacles commission our patients to thrive,” said Dr. Polonsky.
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. with one in three people at risk of developing the disease in their lifetime, costing $245 billion in total medical costs and lost wages. “Adults with diabetes have a 50 percent greater risk for additional health risks and their medical costs are twice as high,” said Ken Cahill, CEO of SilverCloud Health. “Our highly, engaging therapeutic solution focuses on improving patient quality of care while reducing per capita costs by up to 70 percent while providing measurable care.”
The new HIPAA-compliant program is the second in a series of gold standard behavioral healthcare solutions brought to the U.S. market with Wiley; the initial series focuses on the behavioral healthcare of patients suffering from anxiety. The program is also an addition to SilverCloud Health’s existing program library, proven in clinical practice to allow healthcare organizations to increase engagement and reach six times more individuals, at the same time delivering outcomes equivalent to face-to-face treatment.
Visit SilverCloud and Wiley at the World Diabetes Congress booth #1826 through Dec. 4 in Vancouver for more information and participate in a demonstration of the new Space from Diabetes program.
