SpotHero Prioritizes NYC Expansion Following $20M Series B

On-Demand Parking Marketplace Hires John Horton From Zipcar As NYC General Manager

CHICAGO--()--Today on-demand parking marketplace SpotHero announced plans to rapidly expand its presence in New York City, just two months after raising $20 million in a Series B led by New York-based Insight Venture Partners. The company has hired John Horton from Zipcar as NYC General Manager to accelerate its growth in the country’s biggest parking market.

In the past year, SpotHero grew its New York parking marketplace from 183 to 645 parking facilities. Over 50% of SpotHero’s daily parking spots in New York are now reserved via mobile app, up from 25% last year, and sales of monthly parking spots are up 6x year-over-year. The company expects New York to be its biggest market by the end of 2016.

“We’re excited to accelerate our growth in New York,” said Mark Lawrence, CEO of SpotHero. “Given John’s background at Zipcar, we know he is the perfect person to help us continue to build upon our strong relationships with parking operators.”

As NYC General Manager, John Horton will oversee sales, operations and local marketing. Horton was previously the NYC General Manager at Zipcar where he expanded Zipcar’s parking network to over 500 parking facilities in the New York metro area. In his role at Zipcar, Horton also spent time at Zipcar headquarters in Boston, where he handled national partnerships and helped launch the Zipcar OneWay program. Horton’s resume also includes sales roles at Coca-Cola and General Motors. He will hire up to 10 employees, who will be based out of WeWork.

“SpotHero is the clear leader in this space,” said John Horton, NYC General Manager at SpotHero. “I look forward to building upon this year’s momentum, partnering with parking operators and making parking easier for drivers in New York.”

Horton is the latest addition to SpotHero’s growing team. Earlier this month, SpotHero announced the hires of two top executives: Kristen Cho as Digital Marketing Director and Elissa Beckman as Head of Talent and Recruiting. Earlier this year, SpotHero hired Jason Pinter as VP of Finance and Tim Maloney as VP of Sales.
