DENVER & HOUSTON--()--Badlands NGLs, LLC (“Badlands”) and Univation Technologies, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) (“Dow”), today announced that Badlands has licensed Univation Technologies’ UNIPOL™ PE Process for four polyethylene reactor lines, representing a total capacity of 2.4 million metric tons. The capacity is to be split between its two sites, one in North Dakota and one in a yet-to-be-named site also in North America. Each site will be home to two world-scale 600kta reactor lines; Badlands has indicated a potential need for future expansion. The production lines will use Univation’s LLDPE and HDPE catalysts including the proprietary PRODIGY™ Bimodal HDPE, ACCLAIM™ Unimodal HDPE, and XCAT™ Metallocene LLDPE catalysts.

“We are delighted to announce our selection of the UNIPOL™ PE Process for the Badlands sites,” said William Jeffrey Gilliam, chief executive officer of Badlands. “With Univation’s strong history of excellence, safety, and reliability, as well as a commitment to continued innovation, we believe we have chosen the strongest technology to deliver a broad range of high-performing polyethylene resins into the market. Univation is the only technology licensor with demonstrated capability in plants at or larger than 600kta in operation; this was critically important to us given the size of our planned facilities.”

“I’m pleased that Badlands has selected UNIPOL ™ PE Process for their sites, and look forward to working with them as their project progresses,” said Jim Fitterling, Dow’s vice chairman of Business Operations. “As a wholly-owned subsidiary, Univation Technologies is creating significant value to Dow’s plastics portfolio as the leading technology licensor to the worldwide PE industry.”

Badlands’ North Dakota PE facility was originally announced in October 2014 by the North Dakota Industrial Commission and Gov. Jack Dalrymple. Badlands has subsequently secured a second site in North America for polyethylene production.

“Univation is proud to be selected by Badlands NGLs for these significant projects,” said Steven Stanley, president of Univation Technologies. “These sites will showcase the latest UNIPOL™ PE Process technology at world-class scale for production of a full range of HDPE and LLDPE grades. As a leading innovator in PE technologies and catalysts, we are excited to partner with Badlands to deliver our well-proven, safe, and reliable process to serve the growing global demand for polyethylene.”
