FirstFuel Awarded MassCEC Grant to Drive Smarter Energy Use in Massachusetts Municipal Electric Companies

'Massachusetts As a First Customer' program to help connect local municipal electric companies to provide better service, energy efficiency to their customers using FirstFuel customer intelligence analytics

BOSTON & LEXINGTON, Mass.--()--As part of its 'Massachusetts As a First Customer' program, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) has awarded FirstFuel Software, the trusted source for customer intelligence for energy providers, a grant to help local municipal electric companies engage with their commercial customers and identify opportunities to better manage and reduce energy consumption or demand. Selected through a competitive award process as a grant recipient for its commercially-ready technology, FirstFuel will offer Massachusetts municipal electric companies an easy-to-use, cost-effective way to unlock energy-use insight and enhance energy efficiency efforts with hard to reach business customers.

‘Massachusetts As a First Customer’ is one of more than 20 MassCEC programs dedicated to growing the production and use of clean energy across the state. ‘Massachusetts As a First Customer’ works to support the state’s clean energy and water innovation technology companies, in addition to facilitating the adoption of these innovative technologies at public agencies, schools and communities across the Commonwealth. The program operates in a two-stage process, first working to assess the technical readiness of emerging technologies, and then to connect the most viable technologies with public entities interested in adopting them.

MassCEC selected FirstFuel as one of three recipients of Phase II grant funding after a comprehensive review of its innovative big data technology and advanced analytics capabilities. The review determined that FirstFuel could offer municipal electric companies a seamless solution for improving customer engagement and satisfaction as well as the speed and scale of energy efficiency deployment. FirstFuel’s technology is already providing these benefits at many of the leading large investor-owned utilities across the country, but few if any smaller municipal and co-op electric companies have previously had access. Following the grant award, FirstFuel is working with MassCEC’s support to select the municipal utilities for initial deployment.

“MassCEC is proud to partner with FirstFuel on the ‘Massachusetts As a First Customer’ program,” said MassCEC Interim CEO Steve Pike. “The company's software will make it easier for municipal utilities to engage customers in cost-saving energy efficiency measures.”

“We’re honored to have been selected by MassCEC for this grant,” said Swapnil Shah, CEO, FirstFuel. “We are committed to helping energy providers optimize user efficiency, and eager for the opportunity to drive smarter energy use in our home state. Massachusetts has long been the leader in forward thinking approaches to energy use, and we’re glad to do our part to enhance that success locally and beyond.”
