Introducing Stash: A New App That Empowers Everyone to Become an Investor

Make Your Own Investment Choices, Starting With as Little as $5

NEW YORK--()--Today, over half of Americans don’t invest, and they’re missing out on what has historically been one of the best ways to build a secure financial future. Stash Invest (“Stash”) is on a mission to change that. With a new iOS app launching today, Stash helps consumers make investment choices based on their interests, beliefs and goals, starting with as little as $5. Unlike automated “robo advisors,” Stash puts the power of choice in consumers’ hands.

“Many people are intimidated by investing. The terms can be complicated, the choices can be overwhelming, and the prices and fees can be high,” said David Ronick, CEO and co-founder, Stash. “We believe everyone should be able to invest, and that’s exactly why we’re launching Stash. We’re tearing down the most common barriers for investors, making investing affordable, approachable and easier for everyone.”

Stash helps people start investing with one small step, gain investing confidence gradually, and build smart financial habits for the long-term. With Stash, people can:

  • Choose investments that matter to them. Stash lets people choose to invest in companies or trends they find interesting or inspirational, or that match their financial goals. Investments are organized and described in ways that make them approachable for all investors. Think tech companies will keep changing the world? Choose the “American Innovators” investment. Think it pays for companies to treat LGBT employees with fairness and respect? Choose “Equality Works.” Or, follow one of the most successful investors in the world, and invest in “Roll with Buffett” for a slice of Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Start investing in minutes. To get started, people download the app, answer a few questions, pick from a short list of investments that match their risk profile, and make one small initial investment. Stash currently offers about 30 different investments. They are mostly Exchange Traded Funds (“ETFs”), developed and managed by professionals at firms like Vanguard or BlackRock, and selected by Stash based on historical performance, low fees, and managed risk. While a single share of an ETF or stock can cost over $100, with Stash, investors can buy a part of a share for as little as $5. Stash charges $1 per month for account balances with less than $5,000, and 0.25% of account value per year above that. There are no commissions for buying or selling investments.
  • Receive ongoing support and guidance. Unlike other services that operate with a “set it and forget it” approach, the Stash Advisor delivers ongoing advice, recommendations and support, so people can gradually become more confident investors. Further, Stash knows investing can be confusing and even lonely, so the app lets people tap into their social networks to share investment ideas, questions and choices.

Stash is available now on iOS, with an Android version launching soon. For more information, visit StashInvest.com.
