Kepler’s Books Launches Innovative GiftLit Service

Combines Staff Literary Expertise with Online Ordering and National Fulfillment to Deliver High-Quality Book Gift Subscriptions

MENLO PARK, Calif.--()--Kepler’s today announced its new GiftLit subscription service that makes it easy for customers to gift high-quality books from curated collections for all ages and types of readers. This unique service continues Kepler’s tradition of bookstore innovation by taking the guesswork out of purchasing gifts for friends, family, and colleagues.

“GiftLit combines our staff’s literary and curating expertise with ultra-convenient online ordering and fulfillment,” said Praveen Madan, who is leading the project to reinvent the bookstore. “GiftLit makes it easy for anyone to easily select and send the very best books in any category to friends, family, and colleagues. Recipients receive one book per month through a three, six, or twelve-month subscription. Each book is gift-wrapped and accompanied by a personal note from the giver, making the gift more meaningful.”

GiftLit was founded in 2006 by Deirdre Hockett and Susheela Vasan who wanted high-quality books for their children and for out-of-town friends and family. As avid readers, they recognized the special connection that books create between people and designed a company that would make it easy for people to stay in touch with books and also support literacy causes.

GiftLit recently became a subsidiary of Kepler’s, adding an already-successful service with strong online ordering and national fulfillment to the store’s traditional retail presence. The service also benefits from Kepler’s staff literary expertise. With extensive experience and degrees in literature, journalism, and other related fields, Kepler’s staff takes the guesswork out of finding excellent books by creating curated lists of the best books in the market across all literary categories.

With the GiftLit service, Kepler’s also takes advantage of leading-edge technology to continue innovating on the traditional bookstore model. Madan sees potential for extending GiftLit’s curation and fulfillment capabilities to other independent bookstores, book clubs, and literacy non-profits thus enabling them to broaden their reach, better serve their mission, and gain additional revenue.

“GiftLit is another step forward in our plan to reinvent Kepler’s—and potentially the bookstore industry,” said Madan. “We see tremendous potential to add value to the traditional bookstore business model and differentiate our business from the online bookstore market gorillas. As we integrate the GiftLit service and new technology features into our operation, we plan to share our progress and lessons learned with other independent bookstores, book clubs, and literacy non-profits so that everyone can benefit.”
