NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP announced today that Eric Tirschwell, co-chair of the firm’s white collar defense and investigations group, has been appointed by the United States Sentencing Commission to be national Chair of the Commission’s Practitioners Advisory Group. He starts in October.
Tirschwell has been a member of the Practitioner’s Advisory Group since 2008, when he was appointed as the Second Circuit representative, and has served as national Vice Chair since 2010. The group provides the Commission with the perspective of the private federal criminal defense bar on Commission priorities and proposed amendments to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. As part of his work, Tirschwell has testified before the Sentencing Commission on multiple occasions. The United States Sentencing Commission is an independent agency in the judicial branch of government that was established by the 1984 Sentencing Reform Act.
Mr. Tirschwell defends corporate executives and public and private companies in criminal and regulatory investigations, trials and parallel civil litigation. He is co-author of the textbook The Practice of Federal Criminal Law and has published extensively on criminal practice. He has represented numerous clients in federal sentencing proceedings and appeals. Earlier in his career, Mr. Tirschwell served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and supervisor in the Eastern District of New York, representing the government as lead prosecutor in hundreds of criminal cases.
