ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Young-Jun Roh, Esquire, has been selected to receive the prestigious Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service by the American Inns of Court. The award will be presented at the 2015 American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence at the Supreme Court of the United States in October; the event will be hosted by Associate Justice Elena Kagan.
Roh is an associate with the law firm of Cuddy & McCarthy in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where his practice focuses on general litigation, defending government entities and private clients in civil rights, employment, and commercial/business matters. He has served as lead counsel or second chair on more than 75 matters in New Mexico federal and state district courts. Since beginning his practice, he has contributed approximately 540 hours per year of legal work. His efforts have most recently been focused on assisting Korean widows in estate planning and probate matters. He has also represented clients, including undocumented immigrants, in divorce or separation cases; civil, real estate, and criminal matters; foreclosure actions; and other matters. A member of the First Judicial District Local Pro Bono Committee, Roh has assisted clients referred from Legal Aid, Santa Fe, in civil and commercial disputes. He is fluent in Korean and Chinese (Mandarin), and also speaks some Spanish, Japanese, and Dutch.
An active member of the Oliver Seth American Inn of Court since 2007, Roh has served on the American Inns of Court Board of Trustees and its Leadership Council. He chaired the Tenth Circuit Advisory Committee and is a member of the Pegasus Scholarship Selection Committee. He was named a Southwest Rising Star by Super Lawyers for 2014–2015.
Roh earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Wyoming College of Law, where he served as senior editor of the Wyoming Law Review and was named the Peter C. Maxfield Outstanding Third-Year Student. He also has a master of business administration from the University of Korea.
The Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service is awarded each year to honor an American Inn of Court member in practice for ten or fewer years for excellence in public interest or pro bono activities.
