SUNNYVALE, Calif.--()--Simply Hired, the largest independent job search engine with properties in 24 countries and 12 languages, today released its Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook for August 2015. The report analyzes Simply Hired’s comprehensive index of millions of online job listings in every occupation to provide detailed insight into national and local job trends. According to the new research findings, nationwide job listings increased by 2.04% between July 2015 and August 2015. The August 2015 increase, while falling short of July’s 4.00% gain, marks the seventh consecutive month of growth for U.S. job listings.

Healthcare is driving significant hiring gains as one of the strongest contributors to the U.S labor market. The industry accounts for 14.2% of all job listings on Simply Hired as compared to 9.3% for the tech sector. This equates to 673,298 job openings nationwide, up 11% from this time last year. The U.S. cities with the most open healthcare jobs include New York (43,879 job openings), Los Angeles (42,961), Boston (38,101), Atlanta (34,492) and Tampa-St. Petersburg (33,398).

The nursing field dominates healthcare job opportunities, accounting for 7 out of 10 available jobs in the industry. The employment outlook is particularly positive for registered nurses (RNs). The role accounts for 3 out of 4 of all nursing openings with 336,551 jobs currently available nationwide. The average annual salary for a registered nurse (RN) is $66,000, compared to $39,000 for a licensed practical nurse (LPN), although the role requires a four-year or two-year nursing degree versus a shorter, one-year certification.

“Healthcare is a dominant force for job creation,” said James Beriker, President and CEO of Simply Hired. “Our data shows that healthcare represents 14.2% of all available jobs on Simply Hired.
