SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pivot3, a pioneer and innovator in the development of hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), and Tracewell Systems have partnered to offer a purpose-built solution designed to power computationally intense applications in space-constrained Defense environments. Tracewell will leverage Pivot3’s HCI software to enable application virtualization, maximize useable storage and ensure high survivability.
Forward-deployed military units have advanced computing requirements that must be met within a limited physical footprint, a constrained power consumption budget and a limited thermal envelope.
The partnership between Tracewell and Pivot3 gives Defense customers high performance compute power and efficient and secure data storage within a compact solution that can be deployed on a variety of military platforms ranging from airborne and surface, to sub-surface. The joint solution is characterized by very high survivability which stems from Pivot3's high levels of protection against hardware failure based on its patented Scalar Erasure Coding technology.
Tracewell customers will be able to take full advantage of the performance and efficiency of Pivot3 Global hyper-convergence for demanding workloads such as Big Data analytics, virtualization and high performance computing - all within a compressed footprint.
“Our partnership with Tracewell is the next step in our strategy to lead the HCI market for industry specific solutions,” said Ron Nash, Pivot3 CEO. “Our 12 years of research and development have produced a highly stable and efficient hyper-converged software platform that can be deployed in many demanding environments, such as mission-critical Defense applications.”
With Pivot3 and Tracewell's solution, the Defense industry will benefit from patented software-defined storage (SDS) technology that maximizes drive and server fault tolerance through Pivot3’s patented Scalar Erasure Coding.
“Our 40-year history in engineering for military applications is the perfect match for Pivot3’s experience in hyper-converged storage and compute solutions,” said Matt Tracewell, president and CEO, Tracewell Systems. “Culturally, the two companies have common themes that customers will benefit from, which are unconventional approaches to difficult engineering and technology challenges, combined with unrelenting determination for solving difficult industry problems.”
Tracewell military customers will gain access to a high-performance, hyper-converged platform based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware platform, rather than the typical custom military hardware. This provides customers with a more attractive cost structure, better long-term availability and an easier upgrade path from an x86 server technology platform.
"By integrating Pivot3's HCI technology, Tracewell can maximize the performance of its dense, ruggedized T-FX2 solution designed for space-constrained and computationally intensive military environments,” said Ron Nash. “The high storage efficiency of Pivot3 HCI, combined with low compute overhead allows for maximum resources to be available to run advanced algorithms and perform complex operations on large databases."
