STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stanford Health Care today announced that Eben L. Rosenthal, MD, was recently named the new Medical Director of the Stanford Cancer Center and associate director of clinical care of the Stanford Cancer Institute. Rosenthal will be responsible for coordinating inpatient and ambulatory activities related to cancer care across all Stanford University School of Medicine departments and services.

Prior to joining Stanford, Rosenthal was Chief of the Division for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. Rosenthal has led an NIH funded laboratory for over a decade and developed multiple first in human clinical trials in oncology at UAB. He has published extensively on head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction, targeted cancer therapies and novel surgical imaging technologies.

Board certified in otolaryngology and in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Rosenthal earned a medical degree and conducted his residency program in otolaryngology at the University of Michigan. He completed his undergraduate studies at Haverford College.

In June 2015, Stanford Health Care opened its new Stanford Cancer Center South Bay in San Jose. Located at 2589 Samaritan Drive in San Jose, the Stanford Cancer Center South Bay brings Stanford Health Care’s renowned comprehensive cancer services to the region in a state-of-the-art, patient-oriented center.
As part of the Stanford’s initiative to transform cancer care, every detail of the South Bay facility was considered from the patient’s perspective. Planning for the building included extensive workflow design in partnership with Stanford’s Patient and Family Advisory Councils, members of the local community, and a multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff to provide a welcoming and efficient layout.
Stanford is known for a number of key breakthroughs in cancer, including the first medical use of a linear accelerator, invention of the CyberKnife for focused radiation therapy, and the development of one of the first targeted cancer treatments through the use of monoclonal antibodies.
