SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Office Ally announced today the expansion of its highly acclaimed e-prescribing module to now provide for electronic prescribing of controlled substances. By achieving this certification from both Surescripts and the Drug Enforcement Administration, physicians can now use Office Ally’s OA-Rx module to prescribe all medications to their patients in a safe and easy manner. Office Ally is partnering with Surescripts to link with over 93 percent of U.S. pharmacies.
Launched in September 2014, OA-Rx is an important component in helping providers automate their offices in ways that contribute to better and safer care while allowing them to spend more time with their patients. Prescribers using OA-Rx receive automated interaction alerts for drug-to-drug, drug-to-disease and drug-to-allergy interactions as well as clinically relevant cautionary information, thus reducing the chance of medical errors.
OA-Rx also allows prescribers to view prescription benefits and formulary information, automatically build commonly used pharmacy lists and medication history for each patient, and access various reports for easier record keeping and tracking. OA-Rx can also help providers increase their HEDIS scores resulting in larger reimbursements. In many cases OA-Rx provides patients with informative guides for the drugs prescribed and/or money-saving coupons.
“Our new certification allowing for the prescribing of controlled substances means that providers can now do all of their prescribing in a safe, easy and seamless manner,” said Brian O’Neill, president and CEO of Office Ally. “This is particularly important as the healthcare industry looks to become both more efficient and more consumer focused.”
Controlled substances are drugs or other substances that are controlled under the Federal Controlled Substances Act. The use of these drugs can be effective in the treatment of illness, pain and disease but also have the capacity to cause addiction, injury, impairment, and death if abused. As a result, physicians are expected to regulate the dosage and prescribe only the quantity of such drugs that are medically necessary. In addition, physicians must maintain a written record of the prescribing of all controlled substances, and that record must contain sufficient information to justify the diagnosis that warrants controlled substance treatment.
OA-Rx is being offered to providers as a free “add on” to two of Office Ally’s most highly sought-after products – its Practice Mate™ practice management software and its EHR 24/7™ electronic health records application. Providers may also use OA-Rx as a standalone product.
