Phono del Sol Food and Music Festival Chooses Spray, the Crowd-Messaging App, To Connect Festivalgoers, Performers, Foodies

App supports musician-to-fan engagement, real-time event updates, user-to-user connections and content sharing

SAN FRANCISCO--()--For the first time in its history, the Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival will connect performers, music fans and foodies through a real-time messaging app called Spray.

Spray will enable at least 5,000 visitors during the July 11th festival in Potrero del Sol Park to connect with other fans, distribute or receive festival content, and create festival-specific communities, including musician-to-fan interactions as well as real-time event updates from festival organizers.

Musicians who perform at the festival can use Spray to share exclusive content and limited releases to the crowd. In addition to creating intimate, real-time performer-to-fan experiences, Spray users can “spray” selfies to other users, seek and share feedback on performers and food options throughout the event, and make and connect with new friends who are also in attendance.

Launched in late 2014, Spray is a hyperlocal crowd-messaging app that enables users to send messages, called “sprays,” to other users without the need to know their email addresses, social media handles, phone numbers or personal contact details. Within pre-defined geographic areas, Spray users can explore new communities, stay updated on hyperlocal events, connect with and meet new people, and leverage the collective wisdom of the nearby crowd to discover new trends and ideas.

Messaging Apps Energize Summer Festival Atmospheres

"A big challenge of running this type of festival is being able to communicate effectively with thousands of people simultaneously,” said Zack Frederick, Associate Producer of The Bay Bridged, a 501(c)3 non-profit that produces the Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival, an annual Bay Area event known for its great food and mash-up of music by some of the world’s leading artists.

“Using Spray during the festival allows us, as promoters, to send relevant messages and updates about festival activities, including special drink discounts, performance times, event updates, safety information, schedules and more,” he says. “Because of its hyperlocal capabilities, we’re really excited to have Spray as the first crowd messaging app during Phono del Sol to engage our audiences.”

Spray is available for download on iOS and Android.
