SAN FRANCISCO--()--At today’s San Francisco Pride press conference, Madame Tussauds San Francisco revealed their newest wax figure, Laverne Cox, celebrating her stance on equality and inclusion within the LGBT community. The reveal was accompanied by a surprise side-by-side appearance by the esteemed actress.

“I hope that it gives people a sense of possibility. I think that it’s important that yes, I’m transgender, but I’m also a black person in America. And I was raised African Methodist Episcopal,” Ms. Cox said in a touching speech. “So I’m standing here at the intersection of multiple identities, and so I hope that people will be inspired to believe that anything is possible.”

As the first ever transgender wax figure in the history of Madame Tussauds, the timely unveiling perfectly reflects Pride 2015’s theme of “Equality Without Exception”, as Ms. Cox’s figure joins a cast of famous San Franciscans and international A-listers at the Fisherman’s Wharf venue – from Harvey Milk and Gerry Garcia to George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In supporting Pride and Ms. Cox’s advocacy work, Madame Tussauds continues their commitment to reflect changing contemporary society and the people shaping the cultural landscape around the world.

Laverne Cox’s figure will have permanent residence in the “A-list” section of Madame Tussauds San Francisco, placed against a commemorative Memory Wall to be created during the 45th Annual San Francisco Pride Celebration weekend.
