Lowenstein Sandler LLP Adds Leading Trial Lawyer to its Insurance Recovery Group

Firm Expands its Washington, DC Office with Strategic Move

WASHINGTON--()--Executing on its long-range strategic plan, Lowenstein Sandler LLP announced today that David L. Elkind has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, DC office. Elkind, an insurance coverage litigator with more than 25 years of experience, is the latest addition to the firm’s growing insurance recovery group.

Elkind brings extensive trial experience to the firm, as well as a number of current clients in the energy and public utilities sector. Elkind has recovered more than a billion dollars for his clients over his career. Joining Elkind in the move to Lowenstein is an associate from his prior firm.

The welcomed addition of Elkind is consistent with Lowenstein’s strategic plan of “doubling down” on targeted practice groups where the firm has strength and sees opportunity. In the past year alone, the firm has added four insurance recovery partners, two counsel, associates, and is seeking to further expand in this area. The move also dovetails with the firm’s commitment of growing the strength of its Washington, DC office, founded within the past year. Since its opening less than a year ago, the firm’s Washington, DC office has grown substantially and now has capabilities in antitrust, insurance recovery, litigation, derivatives and venture capital transactions.

Elkind joins an insurance recovery group led by Lynda Bennett that has a deep level of experience and significant infrastructure in place to facilitate his practice. The firm’s commitment to expanding in this area includes an active “cross-selling” program to existing clients by appropriate practice groups. Under the leadership of Gary Wingens, Lowenstein has grown revenue by more than 25% since 2009.

What Made Lowenstein Attractive to Elkind:

Elkind was drawn to Lowenstein for a number of reasons, including:

  • The firm’s strategic plan to building a first-tier insurance coverage practice;
  • The level of expertise and existing infrastructure in the current practice group;
  • The firm’s commitment to representing exclusively corporate policyholders;
  • The active “cross-selling” that takes place at the firm which encourages creativity within the partnership;
  • The firm’s entrepreneurial mind-set which encourages innovation and creativity; and
  • The firm's demonstrated commitment to growing its Washington, DC office.
