Amazon Confirms Fulfillment Center in Shakopee, Creating More than 1,000 Full-Time Jobs

SEATTLE--()--Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today confirmed its plans for a nearly 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Shakopee, Minn. Amazon will create more than 1,000 full-time jobs at the site when the fulfillment center opens.

“We’re excited to become a member of the Shakopee community and create more than 1,000 full-time jobs that offer competitive wages and comprehensive benefits on Day One that include health insurance, 401(k), bonuses and stock awards,” said Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America operations. “We look forward to serving as a catalyst for new growth in the area by working with local businesses and collaborating with local and state elected officials who have been so supportive of Amazon entering the region.”

"This expansion is a tremendously important investment by Amazon in the City of Shakopee and in our state,” said Governor Mark Dayton. "It will enable the company to provide faster deliveries and better services to its customers in this region. I thank Amazon for the more than 1,000 jobs it is bringing to Minnesota.”

At the facility, Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods. Associates will work alongside innovative technologies, including Amazon Robotics, which will be used on a daily basis to fulfill customer orders.

“The City of Shakopee is pleased to welcome Amazon to our community. We feel Amazon will be a tremendous asset to our City and region by providing more than 1,000 new jobs and bolstering our regional workforce,” said Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke. “We look forward to Amazon’s investment in the community and its commitment to providing top-notch service for Minnesota customers.”

“We were thrilled to work with Amazon in partnership with city, county and state officials on the company’s new investment in our region that will bring more than one thousand jobs and hundreds of millions in capital investment,” said Michael Langley, CEO of the Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership (GREATER MSP). “Amazon’s decision to locate their new state of the art fulfillment center here provides a strategic national location offering huge market access, strong transportation infrastructure and superior workforce quantity and quality.”

In addition to competitive wages and comprehensive benefits, Amazon also offers hourly employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where the company will pre-pay 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program’s launch, employees are pursuing degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
