SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SourceAmerica®, a national nonprofit organization and leading source of employment opportunities for nearly 125,000 people with significant disabilities, has awarded Goodwill Industries of San Antonio Contract Services with a pair of prestigious awards for its work in employing people with disabilities through 17 government contracts.
The Goodwill Contract Services division, or GISACS, was presented with the 2014 AbilityOne® Program Network Award for Performance Excellence in Government Contracts. Mark McKeever, vice president of GISACS, was honored with a Management Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions to the employment of people with significant disabilities.
“Goodwill is proud to demonstrate that people with disabilities are a true asset to the workplace,” said Marla Jackson, CEO of Goodwill San Antonio. “We are proud to have an AbilityOne® team that is providing this excellent work, and strives to provide our government customers with excellent services while offering value and savings.”
The awards were announced during SourceAmerica’s National Training and Achievement Conference on May 4-6 in Hollywood, Fla. GISACS was recognized for a 100 percent satisfaction rating from its customers for eight years.
Goodwill partners with AbilityOne® to obtain federal contracts for custodial, grounds maintenance and other services, all of which are predominantly fulfilled by a workforce of people who have significant disabilities.
Among its contracts, GISACS processes medical claims for retired veterans through a contract with the U.S. Army and Air Force. The GISACS Army/Air Force Records Processing Center expedites time for the U.S. Department of Defense to process medical claims for retired veterans. Many of the GISACS disabled workers are also veterans.
“Having veterans serve veterans through our contracts is part of our commitment to both people with disabilities and the men and women who serve our country through their military service,” said McKeever.
The GISACS Army/Air Force Records Processing Center has been digitizing service treatment records, or STRs, since January 2014. Out of its 220 employees, 88 percent are people with significant disabilities, with a total of 52 veterans and service-disabled veterans. The facility processes 220,000 records annually. Each record has thousands of images, adding up to 44 million images scanned every year: 29 million for the Army and 15 million for the Air Force.
The federal AbilityOne® Program allows nonprofits such as Goodwill to provide a product or service to the federal government with 75 percent of work done by people with significant disabilities.
