NEW YORK--()--Criptext, a secure platform for email communications, today announced the close of a $500,000 seed round from private investors. The funding will be used to support continued user acquisition and product enhancements. Criptext debuted the public beta of its secure email streaming technology at TechCrunch's Disrupt NY 2015 last month as part of WeWork’s exhibit of their top 20 most innovative companies and was named one of the top 11 up-and-coming tech companies by Computerworld. Criptext makes it easy for enterprises to have security, privacy and control over their entire email activity. The product is currently available as a plugin and/or browser extension for Gmail and Outlook.

“At Criptext, we are working to redefine what an email is. Before, when you clicked send, you lost control of your data, copies of your email were stored across multiple devices and bots could read your emails without you even knowing. Now, you are in control,” said Mayer Mizrachi, founder and CEO of Criptext. “Historically, secure emailing has been complex, primarily because it requires the sender and recipient to use the same email security platform. We have created a technology that is compatible with existing email services in order to create a seamless experience for any user, regardless of email platform. Criptext makes the detrimental effects of costly enterprise email hacks – such as the one Sony is still recovering from – a thing of the past.”

Criptext enables users to:

  • Send encrypted emails to anyone, regardless of whether the recipient uses Criptext.
  • Track when, where and who has opened emails or downloaded an attachment.
  • Recall sent emails at any time – even after they’ve been read.
  • Send oversized files securely to anyone on any device.
  • Set a “self-destruct” timer, at which point the email will be recalled.

“The Internet has clearly enabled faster communications for individuals and businesses alike, and there's no denying that email is the most widely used communication tool in business,” said Joseph M. Matalon, Criptext investor and chairman of ICD Group Limited. “However, there has been little progress towards making these communications as private as personal conversations. That's where Criptext is bridging the gap. It makes security easy and gives the user a level of control and ownership over information that has never been possible before. In a time when privacy is of the utmost concern, Criptext is finally enabling email privacy on a global level for both public and private enterprises alike.”

Matalon added: “Having watched the Criptext founders build robust communication software and then take it to market successfully over the last three years, the decision to invest was an easy one. They are impressive individually and collectively, and the combination of Criptext's product offering with their expertise and drive is a winning one that I expect will quickly gain traction in the enterprise market.”

Criptext is especially appealing, Mizrachi noted, for companies that transmit large amounts of sensitive information via email, such as law firms, wealth management firms and healthcare companies. Even though the target market is enterprises, the company expects much of the early traction to come from the consumer market thanks to its consumer-friendly business model. The company is also private beta testing a consumer version of its Criptext Enterprise Messaging app that will bring security, privacy and control to the growing number of text-based conversations.

Criptext is currently available in public beta for free at https://criptext.com/email/.
