HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--From June 15 to June 19, a diverse delegation of Japanese citizens will visit Texas as part of the “Walk in U.S., Talk on Japan” program to build diplomatic ties at a grassroots level, while meeting with senior Texas representatives. The delegation is led by Ambassador Yasuo Saito, the former Japanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Russia and France, and Consul-General in Atlanta, GA.
Building on the strong existing ties between the U.S. and Japan, this visit aims to further understanding about Japan and promote the relationship between Japan and Texas. The delegation will be attending several forums with Texan citizens, politicians, and business leaders to discuss relations between Japan and Texas and exchange views on a variety of topics.
While in Texas, the delegation will be visiting Houston, Austin, and San Antonio to learn more about Texas culture and history, and to educate Texans about Japan. The delegation plans to meet with Deputy Secretary of State Coby Shorter, Austin Mayor Steve Adler, and San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor. Through these meetings, the delegation seeks to further strengthen ties between Texas and Japan, both in terms of business and culture.
The delegation will also be holding several educational seminars at St. Edwards University, the World Affairs Council of Austin, and the University of Incarnate Word.

The Walk in U.S., Talk on Japan Project began in 2014 as a grassroots diplomacy program to increase understanding among American citizens about Japan and the US-Japan relationship. With support from the government of Japan, delegations feature a diverse range of Japanese citizens with a wealth of experience and includes students, academics, businesspeople, and diplomats, representing multiple facets of Japanese life and culture.
