JENKINTOWN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) – one of the largest grantmaking institutions in the US – announced today John Canady has been named Chief Executive Officer of NPT-UK, the UK’s newest independent Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) sponsor. Canady will lead NPT’s UK affiliate, working with donors, advisors, financial institutions and foundations to identify and achieve philanthropic goals through DAFs.
“John has dedicated his career to increasing philanthropy around the world and we are delighted he will share his extensive experience with NPT-UK donors,” said Eileen Heisman, CEO of National Philanthropic Trust. “While Donor-Advised Funds are the fastest-growing giving vehicle in the US, their philanthropic power, flexibility and ease in grantmaking are not used as frequently in the UK. We are excited at the potential and opportunity to shift that trend.”
Founded in 2013, NPT-UK is a UK/US dual-qualified charity. As such, NPT-UK allows donors who pay tax in the US and the UK the ability to support the charities that mean the most to them and receive tax benefits from both countries. Donors can claim Gift Aid in the UK, claim UK tax relief and receive a tax deduction in the US. Canady will work with donors, advisors, financial institutions and foundations to utilize DAFs to achieve their long and short-term charitable goals.
NPT-UK provides additional philanthropic services to further its mission of increasing philanthropy in society, including: designated funds, field-of-interest funds, as well as specialized grantmaking.
“UK residents are some of the most philanthropic in the world,” said John Canady, CEO of NPT-UK. “NPT-UK was founded to offer industry-leading charitable vehicles and services for donors to provide mission-critical funding to charities around the world. I am honored to lead this effort.”
Canady previously served as the Executive Director of Philanthropy at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) in London, where he worked with individual, family, and corporate donors to structure their philanthropic activities through donor-advised funds. In the private sector, he worked in the hedge fund industry in London and led strategic planning for European emerging markets at MasterCard. In the public sector, he served as a US Foreign Service Officer. Canady has a B.S. from Wake Forest University, an International MBA from the University of South Carolina and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School. He is a dual US/UK citizen.
