SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Imgur, the Internet’s visual storytelling community, today launched an all-new Imgur for Android app, an amazingly simple way to discover, create and share awesome visual stories with the Internet’s funniest and friendliest community. The company will also release an update to Imgur for iPhone, currently under Apple review, which will enable Imgurians to create and share awesome visual stories right from their iPhone.
“We want to help Imgurians discover, create and share the best visual stories on the Internet, from whatever device they want and whenever they want to do it,” said Alan Schaaf, founder and CEO of Imgur. “These new apps give them an amazingly simple way to explore the endless stream of funny, informative, fascinating and unexpected visual stories found only on Imgur, right from their mobile devices.”
Imgur for Android features a redesigned card-based gallery, which puts Imgur’s visual stories front-and-center. By swiping left or right, Imgurians can explore the endless stream of posts, and easily touch to comment, vote or favorite. Imgurians can now browse the stream by topic, so it is a cinch to find content that is personally interesting. Both Imgur for Android and Imgur for iPhone will provide the ability to create and share new visual stories. Imgurians can snap and share pictures or select images from the camera roll, work in some storytelling magic, and instantly share with the Imgur community.
“This is our first-ever fully native Android app, built completely from scratch,” said Andrew Shu, Lead Mobile Developer at Imgur. “We wanted to create a better mobile-first experience, so you can quickly and easily tap into Imgur from your commute, when you need a laugh or some support, when you’re bored, and anytime you get an itch for Imgur.”
Prior to today’s launch, the company shared a sneak peek of Imgur for Android with the Imgurian community, and the feedback was positive. The release of Imgur for Android and Imgur for iPhone marks the next iteration of Imgur for mobile, and the company will continue its commitment to listening to and incorporating community feedback into future updates and feature releases.
