JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Healogics, Inc., the nation’s leading provider of wound care services, is sponsoring the second Healogics Wound Care Awareness Week from June 1 to June 5. Healogics along with its affiliated companies manages nearly 800 outpatient Wound Care Centers® in the United States, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. Program directors, community education specialists and Wound Care Center consultants across the nation will dedicate the entire week to visiting local physician offices providing education to help staff identify patients that may benefit from advanced wound care.
Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is expected to rise at a rate of 2 percent annually over the next decade. An aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and the late effects of radiation therapy contribute to the chronic wound epidemic. Untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb. Approximately 30 percent of untreated chronic wounds result in amputation.
“It is the mission of Healogics and the entire advanced wound care community to educate patients, caregivers and physicians about the chronic wound epidemic and the availability of advanced wound care treatments,” said Jeff Nelson, CEO of Healogics, Inc. “Collectively, through heightened awareness of the problem, we can offer life-changing treatment to millions of people living with chronic wounds.”
