SAN ANTONIO--()--USAA members will be among the first in the country to support Android PayTM, a simple way to pay in stores and in apps. Starting later this summer, USAA MasterCard® and VISA® credit cardholders will be able to add their cards to Android PayTM, empowering them to make mobile payments at more than 700,000 retailers, restaurants and venues across the country and in over a thousand AndroidTM apps.

“We’re committed to delivering simple and secure payment experiences for our members, which is why we are moving so quickly to integrate our cards with Android PayTM,” said Vikram Parekh, assistant vice president of credit card development at USAA. “Android PayTM is opening up the mobile payment experience to Android users.”

USAA members will be able to provision their USAA credit cards for Android PayTM starting on the USAA Mobile App or the Android PayTM app. Instead of a member’s card information to process a payment, Android PayTM uses a virtual account number and never shares an actual credit or debit card number with merchants, providing an extra layer of security.

“As with any payment system, the security of member data is a top priority,” said Gary McAlum, chief security officer at USAA. “The features of Android PayTM help ensure that our members’ card numbers are protected.”

USAA will also be among the first financial institutions to provide the convenience and ease of logging on to the mobile app using Android’s fingerprint support capabilities when Android M, the next version of the Android operating system, launches later this year. Members using the latest Android fingerprint-capable devices will be able to log on to their USAA Mobile App using biometrics to help ensure secure, multi-factor authentication.

USAA is a leader in delivering innovative and secure banking solutions that make life easier for its members. Earlier this year, USAA launched biometric authentication using face, voice and Touch IDTM recognition (for iOS® users). Android PayTM is the latest mobile payments integration USAA offers to simplify everyday transactions. Past USAA mobile innovations include remote deposit capture, fund transfers, blocking and unblocking debit cards, raising credit card limits, searching for and buying their next car, and discounts with some of the most popular retailers.

USAA Bank was also among the first banks to adopt Apple PayTM in November of 2014. USAA launched a smartwatch app for Android WearTM and Apple WatchTM in April.
