RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions announces the launch of a global alliance with ITAB Shop Concept AB to bring together Toshiba’s checkout technology and thought leadership as a global market share leader in point of sale (POS) with ITAB’s unique abilities to design and implement cutting edge and efficient store experiences. Toshiba’s enhanced self-service strategy for checkout through innovation with ITAB allows retailers to reap stronger business results through front-end optimization and expanded self-service utilization. With solutions available today, stores will be able to offer a unified shopping experience for their customers across a variety of checkout touch points.
“Having worked cooperatively in several customer accounts, Toshiba takes great pride in welcoming ITAB as a Together Commerce Alliance Innovation Partner,” said Michael Griffiths, Vice President, Global Commerce Portfolio, Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions. “Through our collaboration with ITAB, well-known as an industry leader for their expertise in design, automation technology, customer experience, and store layouts, Toshiba now offers retailers broader options to transform their stores with a wide range of conventional, self-service and mobile checkout solutions.”
Under the agreement, Toshiba will sell and integrate ITAB self-checkout solutions in the US, Europe and additional global markets as part of its solution portfolio. Consultative capabilities are also available leveraging Toshiba’s store expertise and professional services, combined with ITAB’s experience in store layout, optimization and fixture design. The agreement also provides for future collaboration in the design and development of retail checkout innovation.
“In a retail landscape that changes so rapidly, joining in an alliance with Toshiba enables us to deliver unique solutions to the retail market that leverage the combined strengths of both companies,” said Niklas Thoresson, Chief Business Officer, ITAB. “Through our joint solutions, retailers have the opportunity to improve sales and efficiency in their store operations.”
The retail industry faces the biggest challenges in decades, with dramatic shifts in shopper behaviors and expectations. Findings from the 2014 Retail Satisfaction Barometer study by CFI Group indicate that the checkout offers the highest level of impact in driving customer satisfaction, with a slightly higher ranking above both price and associates. Also, top ranked mobile shopping features and applications indicate key checkout functions (scanning of items, speeding up the checkout process and paying at checkout) are important factors.
