DUBLIN, Ohio--()--IGS Solar, LLC, a turn-key commercial and residential solar provider, has teamed up with ReVision Energy, a full-service solar energy contracting company, to build, own and operate five solar arrays at Proctor Academy. The private co-educational day and boarding school, founded in 1848, is located in Andover, New Hampshire and serves grades 9-12.

IGS Solar will finance, own, and operate the solar project, which is now under construction. “With successful collaboration and careful planning, we’re glad to play a part in supporting Proctor Academy’s existing efforts to bring more renewable energy to campus,” said Patrick Smith, vice president of IGS Solar.

Clean energy will be generated by solar arrays to be installed throughout the campus, including the ice rink, ski area, and three educational buildings on the property. Chief Operating Office of Proctor Academy, John Ferris notes, “This project in partnership with ReVision Energy and IGS Solar is incredibly exciting for us as we continue to live out our school’s environmental mission statement by having nearly a third of our electricity demands powered by solar. It is also a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of our students who proposed the solar sites and calculated the rooftop capacity in their math classes.” The total output of the systems will generate over 250,000 kWh per year for the campus.

The idea to power these areas with solar energy initially came from Proctor Academy’s student environmental action group. Encouraging sustainability is an important initiative for the school, where more than 80% of heating fuel is renewable and used for locations throughout the campus, including a biomass facility, a geothermal dormitory, and four dormitories where students cut, split, stack, and even heat their residences with wood from the onsite 2,500-acre woodlot.

“We are very optimistic about this relationship with IGS Solar,” said Bill Behrens, co-founder of ReVision Energy. “Together, we are pleased to bring clean energy to Proctor Academy, and we look forward to building even more solar arrays throughout the Northeast.” ReVision was also previously involved in the installation of another solar array at the school in 2012, which generates approximately 78,000 kWh of clean power for the institution annually.
