Hibernia Networks to Support Microsoft in Data Network Expansion

Hibernia Networks’ cable, including Express when available, enables Microsoft customers to connect anywhere at anytime

DUBLIN--()--Hibernia Networks, a leading provider of global telecommunications services, announces today that it has been selected by Microsoft to provide connectivity between Halifax, Canada; Ballinspittle, Ireland; and Brean, UK to support its growing data network needs. The route, physically landing in these three locations across the Atlantic, supports connections between several of Microsoft’s data centers via multiple metro and long haul fibers.

Hibernia Networks’ new Express cable is key in supporting Microsoft’s backbone and connecting several of its data centers. The Express cable pair will yield in excess of 10 Tbps per pair, which is nearly triple the 3.5Tbps per pair delivered on the current systems. Microsoft customers will benefit from Hibernia Networks high capacity, low latency fiber optic network in the form of enhanced capability, predictability and availability. The partnership with Hibernia Networks will also translate to a cost-benefit for Microsoft’s customers.

“Hibernia Networks is proud to have been selected by Microsoft to provide a key piece to their existing backbone network on our transatlantic cable system, including our new Hibernia Express cable,” said Bjarni Thorvardarson, CEO of Hibernia Networks. “Microsoft’s trust in Hibernia Networks further affirms our commitment to delivering reliable and secure content delivery. We look forward to our continued work together and to helping connect Microsoft users around the world.”

“Hibernia Networks’ network ensures our customers experience an increase in available network capacity and seamless cloud services across the globe,” said Dave Crowley, Managing Director of Microsoft’s Global Network Procurement. “It is critical that our customers be able to access their data anywhere, at anytime and on any device. Hibernia Networks’ cutting-edge technology, unparalleled reliability and unique diversity make this a reality for our customers.”
