PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2015, a consortium of French companies has positioned itself on cutting edge worldwide 4G developments by designing a next generation eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services) terminal solution. This collaboration will result in widening the capabilities of eMBMS, sparking a new era of innovation in LTE Multicast deployments across the globe.
This project, costing more than US $5 million, involves the collaboration of Orange through its subsidiary Viaccess-Orca, Expway, Sequans, Telecom ParisTech, Sagemcom and Archos. These companies will join their expertise as telecom operators, DRM providers, software developers, research lab, chipset and device manufacturers, covering the full value chain.
“The objective of this project is to go way beyond what is already deployed in the marketplace today. All the players are already leaders in the first wave of LTE Multicast deployment and have been participating to major trials worldwide” said Expway’s Chief Marketing Officer, Claude Seyrat. “Major innovations in LTE Multicast are already in the pipeline. They include new applications for digital radio, efficient magazine delivery, CDN technology, public safety and In-Venue targeted services.”
The project, called Multimedia for 4G evolution (M44G Evo) is supported by French Tech Hub in the Silicon Valley and funded by PIA*. “The support of French Tech Hub and the CGI** was instrumental in gaining traction in the USA, the most dynamic market for LTE Multicast.” concluded Seyrat.
