SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Twitch, the world’s leading social video platform and community for gamers, today announced the addition of more than 100 hip hop songs to the Twitch Music Library courtesy of the Rhymesayers label. In addition to infusing the Twitch Music Library with a bounty of hip hop tracks from its stable of marquee artists, Rhymesayers has enabled Twitch to surpass its latest milestone. There are now more than a 1000 songs cleared for Twitch broadcasters to use - double the amount of songs available when the Twitch Music Library launched in January.
Founded 20 years ago in 1995, Rhymesayers has been a major voice in the independent hip hop scene with artists who have stretched the boundaries of the genre. Among the many notable artists and tracks they are offering to the Twitch community are Atmosphere (“Bitter”), Brother Ali (“Forest Whitaker”), Dilated Peoples (“Good As Gone”), P.O.S. featuring Mike Mictlan of Doomtree (“Get Down”), Aesop Rock ("Zero Dark Thirty") and Grieves (“On The Rocks”).
"The Twitch community's taste in music is as varied as the games they play," said Colin Carrier, CSO and Head of Music, Twitch. "By being able to offer Twitch broadcasters such a large collection of music to use from Rhymesayers' robust catalog, it ensures fans of independent hip hop have plenty of choices."
"It's important for Rhymesayers to have our music where people are listening,” said Skye Rossi, CFO, Rhymesayers. “With so many gamers in our audience, we're excited to be a contributor to the Twitch community."
"I'm excited to be a part of this launch on Twitch 'cause not only do I get to share music with the world, but I get to game with it as well,” said Grieves. “Bump the music, bang with me on the digital battle ground, but most of all, have FUN! That's what this is all about."
The Twitch Music Library is a recently created resource for game broadcasters that provides rights-cleared music for use in live video and VODs. As part of this venture into music, Twitch launched Music as a beta broadcast category. This has quickly attracted some of the biggest names and events in the electronic music scene including the Ultra Music Festival.
Using the beta Music category, Rhymesayers will be hosting a community event on Friday at 5:00pm PT on twitch.tv/rhymesayers. Taking part in the broadcast will be Grieves, Red Meek (formerly of FaZe Clan) and Rhymesayers’ social media manager Sarah Dope. They will be inviting viewers to play Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare with them on Xbox One.
