SHANGHAI--()--Lilith Games (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., a Shanghai-based game developer, filed a lawsuit against uCool in California Northern District Court (Case Number: 4:15-cv-01267) on March 18, 2015, alleging that uCool’s mobile game Heroes Charge has been infringing on its masterpiece Soul Clash.

Soul Clash was first published by Longtu Games in China in February 2014. In May it was named China’s top-grossing iOS game and further became the number one game in Asia by the time uCool launched Heroes Charge in August 2014. With various campaigns, including massive advertisement and the Super Bowl sponsorship in 2015, Heroes Charge also enjoyed great success around the world, and it is currently among the 30 top-grossing mobile games in the United States and South Korea.

“Heroes Charge is so identical to Soul Clash in the rules, the character set, and even the user interface that we assume it could have been created by decompiling the source code of our original game,” said Xinwen Wang, CEO of Lilith Games.“No doubt a clone game with a significant influence in the market will hinder our overseas expansion, which urged us to take legal actions.”

According to Xinwen Wang, Lilith Games has licensed Allstar Games to roll out the English version of Soul Clash in the European markets, under a new name “Allstar Heroes”. The game is also available in other language versions in Asia, including Dot Arena (published by Fun Plus) in South East Asia, DoTa Truyền Kỳ (published by VNG) in Vietnam and Soul Clash published by Lemon Game) in Taiwan.
