TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Results of SUGOI JAPAN®, the first-ever national poll conducted by the Sugoi Japan Committee and The Yomiuri Shimbun to select works Japanese fans would most like to introduce to the world were released on Thursday 12 March. From all the nominations in all of the categories, the top Anime work, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, won the Grand Prix.
SUGOI JAPAN® is an initiative to select the Japanese pop culture works that the fans want the world to know about, that they feel certain will be a global hit. The open vote in the inaugural year was held on the official site of SUGOI JAPAN® over three months from October 1 to December 31 last year, attracting 77,631 votes.
The other category winners were: Manga, “ATTACK on TITAN”, Ranobe (Light Novel), “My teen romantic comedy is wrong, as I expected.”; and Entame Shosetsu (Entertaining Novels), “LIBRARY WAR series”.
What is SUGOI JAPAN?
SUGOI JAPAN is the Japan’s nationwide vote for
manga, anime, ranobe and entame shosetsu works. Japan is blessed with a
set of cultural assets that have the potential to be beloved all over
the world. We globally released a list of 203 nominees in the four
genres on the 1st of October, 2014. The works were chosen from what
published after 2005 and are actually the Japan’s latest masterpieces
covering a wide range of themes in which everyone would find suitable
one. The portfolio of the decade was selected through recommendations by
fans and experts from a global and universal perspective.
