Software-Defined Storage Leader Grows 500% YOY and Accelerates Investment in Japan Market with HP Alliance

TOKYO--()--Scality, the leader in software-defined storage (SDS) at petabyte-scale, today announced the opening of a new Japanese subsidiary, Scality KK. Scality KK will sell and deliver the Scality RING storage solution in Japan.

Recently named the Vice President and General Manager of Scality KK, Hiromasa Ebi joins Scality from Sandisk, and is based in Tokyo. Ebi has an impressive track record of bringing innovative storage solutions to Japan, and building Japan-based businesses. He drove NetApp’s growth in Japan in the early 2000’s, and then as an executive and country manager, led the rapid growth of Isilon and Fusion-IO, which were then acquired by EMC and Sandisk respectively. “I am very excited to build the Scality business and help Japanese customers realize the incredible value and differentiation of software-defined storage. In my 20 plus years of IT experience, I have never seen such a disruptive opportunity for businesses,” said Ebi.

With the establishment of its Japan entity, Scality will strengthen partnerships with Open Wave Systems, Zimbra Japan, and TwoFive, as well as start joint sales activities with Scality’s global partners such as HP and Seagate. Scality will open its Japanese support desk, which plans to be 24 hours a day during business days by the end of the year, to provide substantial support as well as building a structured entity with sales, system engineering and marketing departments.

“Scality already derives 15% of our business from Japan, and experienced more than 500% YOY growth in 2014. Japan is filled with businesses that are ready for a storage revolution,” said Erwan Menard, COO of Scality. “Manufacturing, Web, Cloud, Technology, Banking, Service Providers, and other industries are trying to get more value out of their increasingly expanding data.
