LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alliance Radio Networks announces that Hispanic radio personality and Radio Hall of Famer Eddie Sotelo - known to millions as “Piolin” - has launched a new morning show, El Show de Piolin, across 40 radio station affiliates in the U.S., including Entravision’s 14 stations. The show marks a welcomed return to broadcast radio for Piolin, the most widely recognized personality in Hispanic radio. Piolin, best known for empowering his Latino audience to reach great heights, has a growing, passionate and loyal following from listeners of all ages, with huge social media engagement across Facebook at more than 2.1 Million total “Likes”, which places El Show de Piolin in its first month on air as one of the most-liked shows in all of U.S. radio and as the #1 most-liked show in Hispanic radio.
Piolin’s distinctive humor, vibrant energy and entertaining and inspiring persona are on full display in the new four-hour weekday Spanish-language show. El Show de Piolin is a fun, family-friendly program interwoven with the best Regional Mexican music, the latest news and information of interest to Latinos, and a wide range of guests sharing insights and opinions on current issues and trending topics relevant to the Hispanic community. Guests include immigration attorneys, doctors and health specialists, sports and entertainment personalities, political figures and more.
Jeffery Liberman, Chief Operating Officer of Entravision Communications Corporation, said, "It is not very often that you get the opportunity to bring one of the most talented personalities in Spanish language media to your broadcast assets and this is what happened with El Show de Piolin. We entered into a long-term syndication agreement with El Show de Piolin to broadcast this program in 14 Entravision markets. We also entered into a network sales agreement that gives Entravision Audio Network exclusive rights to represent this program. I met Eduard Sotelo in 1997 and I have been lucky enough to have had the pleasure of working with him for many years. Piolin's undeniably close connection with his fans, his ability to attract the biggest stars in entertainment, and his passion and commitment bring his affiliates the best in Spanish-language national content."
Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo said, “I am so happy to be on the air with our new morning show in these 40 incredible markets, and to be connected to our phenomenal listeners more strongly than ever. The response to the show has been amazing, and it’s a thrill to be back on broadcast radio doing what I love to do and working with a world-class team to engage, inform and just have fun with our guests and listeners as they head to school and work each morning.”
Piolin’s meteoric career in U.S. radio personifies a modern day cross-cultural success story. Born in Ocotlán, Jalisco, México, Piolín left home age 16 to live with relatives in Santa Ana, California. He worked menial jobs to support himself through high school before pursuing his dream to become a Spanish-language radio personality. His first break came on Christmas Day 1991, when he became a newsreader for Radio Mexico (1370 AM) in Corona, where he eventually hosted the midnight show. He then worked on-air spots at Radio Exitos (1480 AM) in Santa Ana, Radio Lazer (102.9 FM) in Oxnard and La Super "X" (99.9 FM) in Sacramento before landing at Tri Color Mexicanisima (1170 AM) in San Jose.
The success of Piolín's zany yet inspirational format caught the attention of HBC, which in 2002 hired Piolin for its early morning slot on LA 101.9 FM (KCSA) in Los Angeles. Before long, Piolín Por La Mañana dominated the ratings and was syndicated on more than 60 radio stations coast-to-coast. His guests have included President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, actor Will Smith and legendary singer Vicente Fernández. Piolín's popularity has led to a number of television and movie appearances, including voice-overs in "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and "Ice Age: Continental Drift," and a cameo role in "The Muppets Movie."
In November 2013, Piolin was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. Previously, he was named Top Spanish Format Personality by the National Association of Broadcasters for 2006, 2008 and 2010. Such popularity translated into serious political clout when, in 2006, Piolín was credited with mobilizing the largest civil demonstrations in American history through massive rallies in Los Angeles and other major American cities on behalf of immigration reform.
After hosting his own channel on SiriusXM, “Piolin Radio”, from 2013-2014, Piolin formed his own L.A.-based production and syndication company, Alliance Radio Networks, which launched El Show de Piolin in January.
On the heels of Piolin’s triumphant return to syndicated radio, he is releasing an inspirational memoir titled Speak Up!: Finding My Voice Through Hope, Strength, and Determination. The book will be published by Celebra, the Penguin Random House imprint that published Jennifer Lopez's memoir. The book will be released on March 3 in both English and Spanish. It features a prologue by another Celebra author, Emilio Estefan.
