ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Truven Health Analytics™ today announced an expansion of its long term strategic collaboration with MEDITECH, provider of Health Information® Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, to include additional products from its Micromedex® Patient Connect Suite. The new agreement will add SmartEngage™ comprehensive consumer online resources and tools; including health information articles, high-definition health education videos, medical illustrations and animations, interactive Health Risk Assessments and quizzes, and SmartSites™ for elective services like bariatric surgery for weight loss, hip and knee replacements and surgery for pain. The additional patient and consumer education solutions will be integrated in MEDITECH MAGIC, C/S, 6.0 and 6.1 EHR platforms, and will complement the existing agreement for Micromedex CareNotes® Patient Education product, currently available and seamlessly integrated in MEDITECH systems.
As a result of this expanded relationship, clinicians using MEDITECH EHR systems will access, from within their MEDITECH environment, any of the purchased products from Micromedex Patient Connect Suite. The Patient Connect Suite is leveraged by healthcare organizations to supply point of care, evidence-based content to clinicians within the MEDITECH EHR workflow during the patient encounter; for consumer access to educational content from a hospital’s web site; as well as eventually supporting secure patient access to care and condition education through the a provider’s patient portal. The integration will leverage HL7 Context-Aware Knowledge Retrieval (InfoButton®) industry standards, and will allow access from any care setting to clinically consistent patient education resources. By providing access within the EHR, hospitals can increase clinician efficiency and improve care provider adoption of relevant, helpful education for patients and family members.
“We anticipate that the Patient Connect Suite will help address our customers’ need to provide clinically accurate and consistent educational materials to their patients; and eventually support the electronic access to those same materials to patients following discharge. The use of appropriate, timely, patient-specific education helps patients understand their symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and home care instructions, and generally will improve a patient’s compliance with those instructions —which is a catalyst to preventing unnecessary future visits and assisting patients in improving their outcomes,” said Robert True, Senior Manager, MEDITECH Business Development.
The Micromedex Patient Connect Suite of patient and consumer education documents are written at a 5th to 7th grade reading comprehension level that helps providers reach Joint Commission and Meaningful Use (MU) standards, and with this new agreement, will provide seamless access to:
- CareNotes — Concise and comprehensive patient-handouts covering the continuum of care including disease, condition, treatment and procedure for pre- and post-treatment patient care, self-care, diet, exercise, and medications and laboratory topics.
- Online health information - Anytime, anywhere access to over 6,000 physician-written articles for patients and consumers on: Diseases and Conditions, Tests and Surgeries, Injuries and First Aid, Treatment Options, Exercises, Nutrition and Medications.
- Patient Education Videos - Over 350 high-definition videos for patients and consumers to support bed-side, post-discharge, and at-home patient education access from the provider’s web-site.
- Customization Tools - Seamless, customer-managed customization tools for easy brand and service-line promotion and integration, and mobile tools to support on-the-go clinicians.
Micromedex Solutions, used by clinicians in more North American hospitals than any other clinical content or education provider, is a single-source for integration-ready, evidence-based patient education and engagement resources and clinical content for medication, including pediatric and neonatal content, disease, toxicology and formulary clinical decision support content.
