Accela Hosts the Accela Connect Hackathon at the Accela Connect 2015 Partner and Developer Conference

Developers, Civic Technologists and Staff Will Convene at Lake Tahoe to Build the Next Killer Civic Tech Apps for Government

SAN RAMON, Calif.--()--Accela, the leading provider of civic engagement solutions for government, today announced the Accela Connect Hackathon will take place Sunday, March 1, 2015, in conjunction with Accela Connect 2015 Partner and Developer Conference. The hackathon and conference will take place at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, CA.

The half-day Hackathon will bring together civic technologists, developers and Accela staff to focus on building new data visualizations using government open data housed in the free CivicData platform. Participants will use live government data to build compelling visualizations to underscore the value of open data to governments and the citizens they serve.

Judging will be completed at the event. Entries will be highlighted during the Accela Connect keynote address given by Accela President and CEO Maury Blackman on Monday, March 2, 2015. Winners will be showcased on Accela Community, Accela’s customer-facing website, which will offer exposure to thousands of Accela government agencies, partners and users. Winners will receive cash prizes totaling $5,000 and participants will receive lift tickets, gift certificates and other Accela giveaways.

Developers will benefit from participating in the Accela Connect Hackathon and the Accela Connect 2015 Partner and Developer Conference, as they provide an opportunity to network and engage with the growing ecosystem of customers, partners, developers and staff. Accela enables civic developers and other technology partners to build on top of and interact with the systems that Accela government customers use to conduct a variety of core functions, including permitting, licensing, inspection, planning, code enforcement and more.

“At Accela, we believe that engagement between agencies and developers is critical to creating innovative solutions to build better communities,” said Maury Blackman. “We’re thrilled to announce the Accela Connect Hackathon in conjunction with our Accela Connect 2015 Conference to see what unique ideas are built off our open data and our API. The snowy Tahoe backdrop provides the perfect setting for a productive dialogue, turning ideas into civic apps faster than ever before and leveraging our open Civic Platform.”
