SAN LEANDRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, OSIsoft, a global leader in operational intelligence and provider of the PI System, announced the hosting of a 2015 developer hackathon associated with the OSIsoft Users conference in San Francisco from the 27th of April - 1st of May, 2015. The 24 hour event is OSIsoft’s 3rd hackathon since 2012 and will bring together application developers, PI System experts, and computing and device manufacturers to explore and advance the use of the PI System in the IoT to deliver operational intelligence.
Today the PI System is deployed to over 17,000 sites throughout oil and gas, metals and mining, power generation, utilities, facilities and other production and manufacturing operations. With over 450 standard connections to system interfaces the PI System provides a common infrastructure to deliver sensor based information for real-time, historical and predictive insights. Participants will leverage the extensive SDK APIs for the PI System to manipulate, process and transform data for advanced analytics using industry standard tools such as SAP Hana, Apache Hadoop, SAS, R, Microsoft Power BI and Azure ML.
Participants will be challenged with developing within 24 hours an end-to-end application for streaming sensor data from an internet connected device to an analytics environment, and returning key results back into the system of record managed by the PI System data infrastructure. Out-of-the-box ideas, using external open source tools, leveraging social media, and other innovative ideas will be encouraged. Winners will receive prizes and will be announced publicly during and post event.
“For over 35 years OSIsoft has been enabling our customers to capture and manage petabytes of sensor-based data derived from millions of streams of real-time feeds,” said Martin Otterson, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Industry, at OSIsoft. “As more and more of our customers are deploying our technology across the entire enterprise as a unified infrastructure to manage sensor based data, it’s imperative we continue to innovate and deliver a software infrastructure that supports change and future trends.”
“OSIsoft continues to innovate the PI System Infrastructure to support the evolution of sensor based data. The hackathon will provide developers with early access to latest PI Developer Platform enhancements supporting IoT use cases,” said Richard Beeson, Chief Software Architect at OSIsoft. “From integration with very low footprint sensors such as 'wearable' devices and gateways at the ingress side to integration with Big Data and Machine Learning systems at the egress side, the PI System continues to provide a common infrastructure for our partners and customers to deliver operational intelligence.”
Hackathon registration and participation is open to all. For details see: OSIsoft UC2015 IoT Hackathon
