INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National Government Services Inc. announced today that its largest development program, the Next Generation Desktop (NGD), has been appraised at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)® Maturity Level 5, which is the highest possible appraisal level. NGD scored 98.5 percent out of a possible 100 percent.
National Government Services’ NGD program is used by more than 18,000 Medicare customer service representatives (CSRs) to answer an average of three million calls a month to 1-800-Medicare. NGD also supports the Affordable Care Act’s individual marketplace hotline, allowing CSRs to take more than a million calls last year on the last day of Marketplace Open Enrollment.
CMMI uses a numeric scale to rate the maturity of a software development process that focuses attention on the people, procedures and tools within that process. The CMMI maturity levels are increasingly used by government agencies and Fortune 500 companies to evaluate the potential for organizations to consistently deliver quality solutions on time and within budget. Developed by the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie-Mellon University, the CMMI model is divided into five maturity levels that cover more than 21 different process areas, including collaboration with customers and partners.
“I want to thank the entire NGD team for their unwavering commitment to the millions of people we serve,” said Tim Masheck, National Government Services vice president of health information technology. “It is an incredible accomplishment that the NGD team achieved CMMI Level 5 — this reflects that our organization is customer-focused with an uncompromising culture focused on quality and on-time delivery.”
