Providence Health & Services Chooses NantHealth’s clinical Operating System (cOS) and Omics Platform to Make Big Data for Personalized Medicine Available at the Clinic Level

Third-largest not-for-profit health system in the United States to utilize cOS to integrate NantOmics Genomic and Transcriptomic sequencing platform into its electronic health record and serve as first health system in the nation to personalize treatment based on evidence based outcomes among patients with a similar genomic and proteomic signature

SEATTLE--()--Providence Health & Services, a not-for-profit health system serving the Western United States, today announced that it has selected NantHealth's clinical Operating System (cOS) to integrate NantOmics’ genomic and proteomic diagnostic system and NantHealth's eviti Advisor, a cancer decision support library, with its Epic based electronic health record system. cOS integrates clinical, financial, operational and environmental data into a single platform. This comprehensive integration enables Providence to be the first health system in the nation with the capability to provide a powerful integrated longitudinal view into the individual genetic and proteomic variances among normal and diseased cells that makes each patient’s disease unique. The strategy enables Providence clinicians to determine optimal, personalized treatment across its entire patient population, which includes more than 25,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year. Providence has initiated the implementation of the cOS system and eviti Advisor at sites in California, Oregon and Washington, including within the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance, an accountable care organization serving Western Washington. The NantOmics Genomic and Proteomic Cancer platform will be activated in December 2014, with the activation of a cancer call center.

“Providence is committed to improving care for our patients by utilizing the most technologically advanced systems,” said Rod Hochman, MD, president and CEO of Providence Health & Services. “The cOS system combines the most up to date evidence-based cancer treatments and clinical trials, with the most comprehensive next-generation genomic and proteomic analysis available. By offering this level of precision medicine, we are providing the individual clinician and patient actionable data that can lead to an improved clinical diagnosis and a targeted treatment option with the ultimate goal of more effective care and a better patient outcome. We are proud to be the first to deploy NantHealth’s advanced cOS and eviti cancer decision support technology with the most advanced molecular diagnostic platform. We believe this facilitates an elevated standard-of-care for all patients.”

Providence is the third largest not-for-profit health system in the United States with 34 hospitals, more than 450 physician clinics, 22 long-term care facilities, 19 hospice and home health programs and 693 supportive housing units in 14 locations.

NantHealth’s cOS is a cloud-based platform specifically for patient records, medical devices, imaging systems, financial systems, costing systems, evidence-based clinical pathways, and personalized genomic and proteomic data. The platform empowers clinicians, patients, and researchers to transcend genomics into the world of proteomics as well as traditional barriers of today’s healthcare system. cOS combines and organizes pertinent medical information for easy access and utilization at the point of care. By converging molecular science, computer science and big data technology the cOS platform empowers physicians, patients, and payers to coordinate best care, monitor outcomes and control cost in real time.

“NantHealth’s cOS empowers all members of the healthcare team, including physicians, case managers and care coordinators, as well as patients and their families, with the most insightful and interactive, coordinated information available to determine the best course of treatment. Providence, with 100,000 active cancer patients seen annually, is the first health system in the nation to personalize treatment based on evidence based outcomes among patients with a similar genomic and proteomic signature,” said Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD, founder and CEO of NantHealth. “The ability to integrate clinical, financial, operational and scientific data into a single, fully-interoperable system – all using a universal patient identification system is enormous and our first steps towards transforming healthcare in our nation. With this system, complex genomic and proteomic data is now made actionable at point of care.”

The cOS cloud-based operating system and the eviti Advisor allows healthcare providers to efficiently and effectively leverage big data in real-time to examine and compare potential treatment options, outcomes and costs to determine the best course of treatment for their patients. In addition to improving accuracy and transparency, cOS integrates data from existing systems, such as electronic medical records (EMRs), labs and pathology, imaging systems (PACS and RIS), pharmacy databases, and medical devices – including in-home devices, enabling optimal treatment and care for patients.
