Coors Light Names Adan Gonzalez Líder of the Year; Receives $25,000 for Community Program

CHICAGO--()--Today, Coors Light announced that Adan Gonzalez from Dallas has been selected by a public online vote as the 2014 Coors Light Líder of the Year. Gonzalez will manage a $25,000 grant from Coors Light to implement a Latino leadership project for AVANCE-Dallas, a community-based, nonprofit organization that provides support and education services to at-risk, economically impoverished families.

Gonzalez was among 12 Latino leaders nominated by local and national nonprofit organizations for their leadership and contributions to their communities. Coors Light Líderes honors the importance of leadership in the Hispanic community and works to help up-and-coming Latino leaders to go further. Through non-profit partnerships, signature programs and long-term investments that support economic development, Coors Light is helping to build stronger communities for everyone.

“Being recognized as the Líder of the Year rewards the hard work and sacrifice of my parents. This honor is greater than myself and it serves as a reminder to our communities that we cannot settle for what we have,” said Gonzalez. “We must fight for our future because education is our freedom, si se puede.”

Gonzalez remains committed to helping his community. Through his Sí Se Puede Network movement, Gonzalez has led different initiatives to empower scholars, giving more than 12,000 hours of community service. Gonzalez is a former USA National Collegiate Boxing Team champion, a U.S. Congressional Silver Medalist, teacher assistant in Washington, D.C., and an intern at the White House. Gonzalez will be honored at the February Coors Light Líder of the Year event in Dallas.

“Adan is a tireless advocate for his community. We are delighted to recognize his work and partner with him on a program that will benefit Latino families and the local community,” said Alberto Senior, director of community commerce and partnerships for MillerCoors.

Since 2006, the Coors Light Líderes program has recognized and highlighted the achievements of emerging Latino leaders through an online public voting competition, a national and local advertising campaign and robust community outreach. About Coors Brewing Company

Coors Brewing Company was founded in 1873 by Adolph Coors, who chose the Clear Creek Valley in Golden, Colo., for his new brewery because of the pure water in the nearby Rocky Mountain springs. The brewery’s original and most enduring beer is Coors Banquet (Coors.com, Facebook.com/CoorsBanquet), still brewed exclusively in Golden using only Rocky Mountain water and high-country barley. Coors Light (CoorsLight.com, Facebook.com/CoorsLight, @CoorsLight on Twitter) was introduced in 1978 and now is the second-best-selling beer in the United States. Triple-filtered smooth Keystone Light (KeystoneLight.com, Facebook.com/KeystoneLight) is one the country’s most popular economy beers. Coors Brewing Company operates in the United States and Puerto Rico as part of MillerCoors, a joint venture of SABMiller plc and Molson Coors Brewing Company.
