WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The collaboration between the American Diabetes Association (Association), the nation’s leading voluntary health organization in the fight to Stop Diabetes®, and Voxiva, Inc., a pioneer in digital health programs, is having a positive impact on the health of people living with type 2 diabetes, based on their own self-reported data. In 2013, the Association and Voxiva announced a commitment to help people with type 2 diabetes improve their health using their cell phones. Since that time, the Association has offered Voxiva’s Care4life diabetes self-management program as part of their Living With Type 2 Diabetes program and preliminary user-reported data indicates that Care4life is helping people achieve targeted health outcomes.
An analysis of 22,544 users over the first six months of program participation showed:
- Average blood glucose levels dropped 16%
- Full medication adherence increased 8%
- Weight loss averaged 12 pounds
- Days exercised increased 23%
Care4life combines the best in diabetes education (developed in collaboration with the Association), with proven evidence-based behavior change approaches, to help people living with diabetes more effectively manage their condition. The program uses text messages, a mobile app, on-line portal, personal health record, and additional content to engage and support users as they learn about diabetes and form healthy habits. Care4life delivers education, medication and appointment reminders, blood glucose tracking, weight and exercise goal setting and tracking, healthy recipes and nutrition tips and more.
“With nearly 30 million Americans currently living with diabetes, finding tools which help people more easily manage their diabetes is critical,” said Suzanne Berry, Interim CEO, of the American Diabetes Association. “Offering Care4life, through our Living With Type 2 Diabetes Program, will provide a personalized resource for people living with diabetes so they can lead healthier lives.”
“The results from Care4life are consistent with results we are seeing with other programs, some of which have been through formal clinical studies,” said, Justin Sims, Voxiva CEO. “While the results we are releasing today are based on self-reported data, the sample size and the volume of information that we analyzed points to the conclusion that this program is having a significant impact on the lives of many people that are learning to conquer their battle with diabetes.”
