RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--McKesson Medical-Surgical, a Henrico County-based affiliate of McKesson Corporation, plans to relocate its headquarters facility to 9954 Mayland Drive from its current location at 8741 Landmark Road. While it is a move of a little more than four miles, the new location will be a significant upgrade over the company’s current facility.
The business, operating as McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc. since 1998, and as General Medical prior to that, has been at its current location since 1964. During that time, McKesson Medical-Surgical has seen strong growth in revenues and employees as the health care industry has evolved. Over the past five years, the workforce at the Landmark Road location has expanded by 32 percent and the company has been searching for more space. Additionally, the company acquired Jacksonville-based PSS World Medical in 2013, nearly doubling its revenues and number of employees.

McKesson Medical-Surgical employs more than 8,500 people at more than 50 locations nationwide. It distributes medical-surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals to approximately 200,000 customers in the majority of healthcare settings.
The company will lease 168,500 square feet of the Deep Run III building and invest more than $10 million in renovations. The new headquarters has enough space to accommodate planned future growth over the next several years and will also be home for an additional 22 Richmond-based employees of McKesson Business Performance Services – another McKesson-affiliated company – including those currently working at 2820 Waterford Lake Drive in Midlothian. The relocation is scheduled for the summer of 2015.
McKesson collaborated with local and state authorities to secure the lease on the space, which the company also plans to use as a showcase for McKesson’s mission of improving healthcare in the U.S. The renovated space will feature a 1,900 square foot Vision Center – similar to the one housed in McKesson Corporation’s San Francisco headquarters – where visitors can walk through McKesson’s vision for the future of healthcare in 2020. This interactive tour will be a draw for suppliers and customers from around the region.
