StudentUniverse Expands UK Efforts with Additional Airline and University Partnerships

Company Opens Larger Office to Accommodate for Growth in the Region

LONDON--()--StudentUniverse, a leading resource for student travel discounts, today announced the expansion of its operations in the United Kingdom. The company has just re-located to a larger office in Kennington Park and expanded its team to accommodate its growth in the region.

Given StudentUniverse’s success as the largest student travel company in North America, the company was able to negotiate global partnerships with a number of suppliers, in addition to forging UK-specific partnerships. StudentUniverse currently has discounted airfare rates exclusively for student and youth travelers with leading airlines, including Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Air France KLM, Delta and Qatar Airways in the UK. The company is also working with dozens of businesses in the UK on bespoke marketing and business development initiatives.

“With over 400,000 international students studying in the UK every year, the market represents a huge opportunity for StudentUniverse. It was a natural choice as an additional point of sale outside of North America,” said Paul Jacobs, vice president of marketing, StudentUniverse. “StudentUniverse is taking advantage of the opportunities that have come from securing a foothold in the region and expanding its European offerings.”

StudentUniverse is also working closely with a number of universities with a large base of international students to help them book cheaper individual and group travel. Students on campuses across the UK were able to meet with StudentUniverse at Freshers Fairs this Autumn term. A green screen campaign “transported” students to one of ten destinations to inspire travel.

“The limited number of student travel brands operating in the UK market presents an opportunity for StudentUniverse, especially given the strength of our web and online services as a tech-first travel brand. Our presence has been met with a warm welcome and excitement,” said Dan Baker, marketing manager, StudentUniverse UK. “The British Educational Travel Association (BETA), in particular, has provided counsel and support as we expanded into this region. As we continue to enhance our product offerings, we look forward to bringing new products and services to the UK next year.”

“There are some specific differences between travel patterns of UK and US students that StudentUniverse has a keen understanding of. For example, UK students may take a gap year between high school and college, take part in Erasmus exchange programs and frequently travel to iconic destinations in Asia (including Bangkok, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia), while spring break is a US concept and hostels are tenfold in the UK market what they are in the US. Understanding patterns in each geography has been critical to determining which products and services will resonate as we expand globally,” continued Baker.

StudentUniverse now has a corporate presence in Boston, New York, London, Toronto, and the Philippines with more than 150 employees worldwide.
