AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Querium Corporation today announced a strategic partnership with Sapling Learning, a wholly owned subsidiary of Macmillan Publishers Ltd., to provide mobile-ready review and preparation for the Texas STAAR Algebra 1 End of Course assessment. Under the agreement, students in more than 1,200 school districts will have access to the Querium “Step-by-Step” performance assessment program designed to assist mastery of concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
“This partnership represents two highly innovative education technology companies uniting to deliver an extraordinary learning experience for Texas students,” said Kent Fuka, Founder and CEO at Querium. “High school exit and end of course tests are high stakes exams for students. Our adaptive and personalized review engine helps them prepare for it, checking their comprehension levels and shoring up areas where they may be weak. Ultimately, the stepped process allows them to strengthen and master Algebra I concepts placing them on a path for academic and career success.”
The Querium "Step-by-Step" engine uses patent-pending, artificial intelligence technology to act as either a tutor or a grading assistant for solving problems. In tutoring mode, the engine guides students through the solution to a problem and intervenes immediately when students make mistakes. The personalized and adaptive engine recognizes where students are struggling and provides hints and feedback as they work through a problem. In grading assistant mode, the engine provides partial credit and useful feedback after the students complete the problems.
"We are excited to partner with Querium to bring its highly sophisticated assessment and tutoring technology to high schools throughout Texas,” said Jamie Caras, Founder and General Manager of Sapling Learning. “The agreement represents a shared vision to help students succeed academically, mastering critical STEM skills.”
Querium “Step-by-Step” combines a natural, familiar interface with handwriting recognition technology – students feel like they are working out a problem on paper. The engine captures rich data during each exercise, including types of errors made, number of steps, hints provided, and time per step. From this data, teachers gain insight into students’ thinking and problem solving process.
Querium “Step-by-Step” will be implemented as a component of Sapling Learning Algebra 1 in Texas classrooms statewide in fall 2015. Under the agreement, Sapling Learning will also serve as the authorized reseller of Querium TSI Math Prep. The latter product is a mobile-ready, personalized and adaptive review program for the new Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Mathematics Assessment which evaluates college-readiness of incoming college students.
