Wells Fargo Taps D.C. Banker for Education and Nonprofit Banking

Maria Christofi Georges brings over two decades of nonprofit banking experience to her new role

WASHINGTON--()--Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) has named Maria Christofi Georges, a 26-year finance and banking veteran in the District, as head of its Education and Nonprofit Banking group in Washington that serves the Mid-Atlantic.

Georges, who has worked for Wells Fargo since 2011, now leads the company’s Education and Nonprofit Banking practice in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington. She began her nonprofit banking career at First Union National Bank and then covered the nonprofit sector for both SunTrust Bank and Bank of America.

Throughout her career, Georges has been involved in the Washington community by volunteering for board and leadership positions with the Finance and Administration Roundtable, American Society of Association Executives, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the National Kidney Foundation, among others.

In the Mid-Atlantic, Wells Fargo Education and Nonprofit Banking includes 14 relationship managers who serve the region’s entire spectrum of nonprofit organizations. Additional Wells Fargo expertise – including treasury management, investment banking, wealth management, insurance, and the complete range of financial services – is delivered by local Wells Fargo professionals who are closely aligned with the Education and Nonprofit Banking team.

Wells Fargo’s commitment to Washington, D.C., includes contributions in 2013 of $1.4 million to local nonprofits and schools, including Capital Area Food Bank, DC Central Kitchen, Greater Washington Urban League, and Washington Performing Arts Society. In addition, company team members donated $236,529 last year through the bank’s annual community support and United Way campaign. In addition, Wells Fargo made 96 community development investments in the D.C. region, totaling $23.8 million.
